H.R. No. 1109 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Members of the speech and debate team at Connally High School in Waco distinguished themselves at two competitions during the 2012-2013 academic year; and WHEREAS, At the district policy debate conference, the Connally team swept the awards, with seniors Austin Pace and Jesus Tonche placing first, seniors Michael Donaldson and Julia Jirovsky taking second, and senior Sandra Davis and sophomore Christian Gutierrez winning third place; in addition, Mr. Pace was named the top speaker in the district; and WHEREAS, The team followed up their performance at the district competition with a strong showing at the National Forensic League qualifying tournament; Mr. Donaldson ranked first in the international extemporaneous speaking contest and qualified for the national meet in Birmingham, Alabama, while Ms. Jirovsky came in fourth in both domestic extemporaneous speaking and congressional debate; in the policy debate, Mr. Pace and Mr. Tonche placed third, Mr. Donaldson and Ms. Jirovsky placed fourth, and Ms. Davis and Mr. Gutierrez placed sixth; and WHEREAS, These talented young Texans have demonstrated outstanding skill and dedication, and they are a source of pride to their families and school; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Connally High School speech and debate team on their successes during the 2012-2013 academic year and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
