9- A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
104 AN ACT
115 relating to authorizing certain current and retired associate
126 judges to conduct a marriage ceremony.
137 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
148 SECTION 1. Section 2.202(a), Family Code, is amended to
159 read as follows:
1610 (a) The following persons are authorized to conduct a
1711 marriage ceremony:
1812 (1) a licensed or ordained Christian minister or
1913 priest;
2014 (2) a Jewish rabbi;
2115 (3) a person who is an officer of a religious
2216 organization and who is authorized by the organization to conduct a
2317 marriage ceremony;
2418 (4) a justice of the supreme court, judge of the court
2519 of criminal appeals, justice of the courts of appeals, judge of the
2620 district, county, and probate courts, judge of the county courts at
2721 law, judge of the courts of domestic relations, judge of the
2822 juvenile courts, retired justice or judge of those courts, justice
2923 of the peace, retired justice of the peace, judge of a municipal
3024 court, retired judge of a municipal court, associate judge of a
3125 statutory probate court, retired associate judge of a statutory
3226 probate court, associate judge of a county court at law, retired
3327 associate judge of a county court at law, or judge or magistrate of
3428 a federal court of this state; and
3529 (5) a retired judge or magistrate of a federal court of
3630 this state.
3731 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
