| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in East Cleveland, Ohio, to Dan and Sadie Braun |

| 9 | 10 | | in 1955, David Braun grew up in Depew, New York; in 1986, he moved to |

| 10 | 11 | | Nassau Bay, Texas, and he earned a degree in marketing from the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | University of Houston; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, After working in sales for a number of years, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Mr. Braun joined the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership in 2005 |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | as aerospace marketing manager, and in that position he was able to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | follow his passion as a strong advocate in behalf of manned space |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | flight; every year, he coordinated a visit to Washington, D.C., by |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | 150 people, who spent two days promoting funding for the space |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | program in more than 350 congressional offices; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Braun was also a leader in his community at |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | home, serving on the Nassau Bay City Council from 2002 to 2010, and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | during his tenure he was instrumental in the development of Nassau |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Bay Town Center; after taking a year off from the council because of |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | term limits, he was reelected in 2011, when he was named mayor pro |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | tem; as a member of the Coalition for Sustainable Flood Insurance, |

| 25 | 26 | | he played a role in the passage of the Homeowner Flood Insurance |

| 26 | 27 | | Affordability Act; and |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Among his many other good works, Mr. Braun |

| 28 | 29 | | volunteered with the Nauticats Swim Team for 12 years, and he and |

| 29 | 30 | | his family often hosted students from around the world through the |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | United Space School and the Texas A&M Singing Cadets; a man of |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | strong religious faith, he assisted with catechism classes at |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, and he also sponsored engaged |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | couples to prepare them for marriage and served on the church's |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | building committee; and |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Braun's awards include recognition from the |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | Clear Creek Education Foundation as Citizen of the Year, and in |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | 2009, the University of Houston presented him with the |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | Distinguished Alumni Award; and |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, During his time on this earth, David Braun lived |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | life to the fullest, dedicating himself to his family, his faith, |
|---|
| 41 | 42 | | and the city he loved, and he will long be fondly remembered by all |
|---|
| 42 | 43 | | those who were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it |

| 43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas |

| 44 | 45 | | hereby pay tribute to the memory of David Michael Braun and extend |

| 45 | 46 | | sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, |
