56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
67 passing of David Michael Braun of Nassau Bay on February 21, 2015,
78 at the age of 59; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in East Cleveland, Ohio, to Dan and Sadie Braun
910 in 1955, David Braun grew up in Depew, New York; in 1986, he moved to
1011 Nassau Bay, Texas, and he earned a degree in marketing from the
1112 University of Houston; and
1213 WHEREAS, After working in sales for a number of years,
1314 Mr. Braun joined the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership in 2005
1415 as aerospace marketing manager, and in that position he was able to
1516 follow his passion as a strong advocate in behalf of manned space
1617 flight; every year, he coordinated a visit to Washington, D.C., by
1718 150 people, who spent two days promoting funding for the space
1819 program in more than 350 congressional offices; and
1920 WHEREAS, Mr. Braun was also a leader in his community at
2021 home, serving on the Nassau Bay City Council from 2002 to 2010, and
2122 during his tenure he was instrumental in the development of Nassau
2223 Bay Town Center; after taking a year off from the council because of
2324 term limits, he was reelected in 2011, when he was named mayor pro
2425 tem; as a member of the Coalition for Sustainable Flood Insurance,
2526 he played a role in the passage of the Homeowner Flood Insurance
2627 Affordability Act; and
2728 WHEREAS, Among his many other good works, Mr. Braun
2829 volunteered with the Nauticats Swim Team for 12 years, and he and
2930 his family often hosted students from around the world through the
3031 United Space School and the Texas A&M Singing Cadets; a man of
3132 strong religious faith, he assisted with catechism classes at
3233 St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, and he also sponsored engaged
3334 couples to prepare them for marriage and served on the church's
3435 building committee; and
3536 WHEREAS, Mr. Braun's awards include recognition from the
3637 Clear Creek Education Foundation as Citizen of the Year, and in
3738 2009, the University of Houston presented him with the
3839 Distinguished Alumni Award; and
3940 WHEREAS, During his time on this earth, David Braun lived
4041 life to the fullest, dedicating himself to his family, his faith,
4142 and the city he loved, and he will long be fondly remembered by all
4243 those who were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas
4445 hereby pay tribute to the memory of David Michael Braun and extend
4546 sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife,
4647 Angela Braun; to his son, Michael Braun; to his parents, Dan and
4748 Sadie Braun; to his sister, Kathy; to his brothers, Danny and Chris;
4849 to his parents-in-law, Albert and Estella Garcia; and to his other
4950 relatives and friends; and, be it further
5051 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5152 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5253 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
5354 David Michael Braun.
