H.C.R. No. 99 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the passing of David Michael Braun of Nassau Bay on February 21, 2015, at the age of 59; and WHEREAS, Born in East Cleveland, Ohio, to Dan and Sadie Braun in 1955, David Braun grew up in Depew, New York; in 1986, he moved to Nassau Bay, Texas, and he earned a degree in marketing from the University of Houston; and WHEREAS, After working in sales for a number of years, Mr. Braun joined the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership in 2005 as aerospace marketing manager, and in that position he was able to follow his passion as a strong advocate in behalf of manned space flight; every year, he coordinated a visit to Washington, D.C., by 150 people, who spent two days promoting funding for the space program in more than 350 congressional offices; and WHEREAS, Mr. Braun was also a leader in his community at home, serving on the Nassau Bay City Council from 2002 to 2010, and during his tenure he was instrumental in the development of Nassau Bay Town Center; after taking a year off from the council because of term limits, he was reelected in 2011, when he was named mayor pro tem; as a member of the Coalition for Sustainable Flood Insurance, he played a role in the passage of the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act; and WHEREAS, Among his many other good works, Mr. Braun volunteered with the Nauticats Swim Team for 12 years, and he and his family often hosted students from around the world through the United Space School and the Texas A&M Singing Cadets; a man of strong religious faith, he assisted with catechism classes at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, and he also sponsored engaged couples to prepare them for marriage and served on the church's building committee; and WHEREAS, Mr. Braun's awards include recognition from the Clear Creek Education Foundation as Citizen of the Year, and in 2009, the University of Houston presented him with the Distinguished Alumni Award; and WHEREAS, During his time on this earth, David Braun lived life to the fullest, dedicating himself to his family, his faith, and the city he loved, and he will long be fondly remembered by all those who were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby pay tribute to the memory of David Michael Braun and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Angela Braun; to his son, Michael Braun; to his parents, Dan and Sadie Braun; to his sister, Kathy; to his brothers, Danny and Chris; to his parents-in-law, Albert and Estella Garcia; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of David Michael Braun.
