H.R. No. 291 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Avery Cunningham has been named a 2014 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in recognition of his achievements in the Career category; and WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholars program was established to reward local students who have demonstrated excellence in such areas as academics, athletics, leadership, and community service; since its inception in 1988, some 480 young men and women have been selected for this prestigious honor, with the winners each receiving a stipend to assist with postsecondary education expenses; and WHEREAS, The son of Johnette Cunningham and Brandon and Renee Cunningham, Avery Cunningham aspires to a career in welding, and he has received certifications in 3D engineering, pipe fitting, structural welding, and core curriculum through dual credit classes at the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend; after graduating, he plans to attend a summer course to earn additional certification; and WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued his goals with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Avery Cunningham on his selection as a 2014 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Cunningham as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
