4	4		SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
5	5		WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
6	6		recognize the Brownsville Independent School District on the
7	7		occasion of its 100th anniversary; and
8	8		WHEREAS, The Brownsville Independent School District was
9	9		established in 1915 following the unanimous passage of House Bill
10	10		594 by the Texas Legislature; and
11	11		WHEREAS, The district has grown from serving approximately
12	12		1,000 students in a handful of schools to include 58 campuses
13	13		serving more than 49,000 students; and
14	14		WHEREAS, The Brownsville Independent School District has
15	15		received numerous honors for excellence, including recognition as a
16	16		Best Community for Music Education in the United States, selection
17	17		for the National Advanced Placement Honor Roll, and the designation
18	18		of five of its campuses as Early College High Schools, the most of
19	19		any district in the state; and
20	20		WHEREAS, Three elementary school campuses have been chosen as
21	21		National Excellence in Urban Education Award finalists and every
22	22		middle school in the district features the Science, Technology,
23	23		Engineering, and Mathematics Magnet program; the district was
24	24		chosen as the 2014 National Hispanic Institute School District of
25	25		the Year; and
26	26		WHEREAS, The Brownsville Independent School District has for
27	27		100 years provided students with excellent opportunities to gain
28	28		the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed and thrive in an
29	29		ever-changing world; it is truly deserving of special recognition
30	30		for the profound impact it has had on its community; now, therefore,
31	31		be it
32	32		RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas
33	33		hereby commend the students, faculty, administration, and alumni of
34	34		the Brownsville Independent School District on their commitment to
35	35		quality education and extend to them best wishes for a memorable
36	36		100th anniversary celebration; and, be it further
37	37		RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the
38	38		district as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature.
