 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Brownsville Independent School District on the
 occasion of its 100th anniversary; and
 WHEREAS, The Brownsville Independent School District was
 established in 1915 following the unanimous passage of House Bill
 594 by the Texas Legislature; and
 WHEREAS, The district has grown from serving approximately
 1,000 students in a handful of schools to include 58 campuses
 serving more than 49,000 students; and
 WHEREAS, The Brownsville Independent School District has
 received numerous honors for excellence, including recognition as a
 Best Community for Music Education in the United States, selection
 for the National Advanced Placement Honor Roll, and the designation
 of five of its campuses as Early College High Schools, the most of
 any district in the state; and
 WHEREAS, Three elementary school campuses have been chosen as
 National Excellence in Urban Education Award finalists and every
 middle school in the district features the Science, Technology,
 Engineering, and Mathematics Magnet program; the district was
 chosen as the 2014 National Hispanic Institute School District of
 the Year; and
 WHEREAS, The Brownsville Independent School District has for
 100 years provided students with excellent opportunities to gain
 the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed and thrive in an
 ever-changing world; it is truly deserving of special recognition
 for the profound impact it has had on its community; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas
 hereby commend the students, faculty, administration, and alumni of
 the Brownsville Independent School District on their commitment to
 quality education and extend to them best wishes for a memorable
 100th anniversary celebration; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the
 district as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature.
