5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens |
---|
6 | 6 | | of Cotulla in mourning the loss of Fredna Wood, who died May 3, |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2015, at the age of 95; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Fredna Knaggs was born in Cotulla on December 19, |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1919; as a young girl she rode her horse to Sunday School and |
---|
10 | 10 | | hitched him to a tree outside her church; she continued to enjoy |
---|
11 | 11 | | riding most of her life; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, She married Richard L. Dobie Jr. in 1942, and they |
---|
13 | 13 | | moved one house down from her childhood home; they were blessed |
---|
14 | 14 | | with two children, and after Mr. Dobie's passing in 1960, she |
---|
15 | 15 | | earned a master's degree in counseling from Trinity University; |
---|
16 | 16 | | she became a proud stepmother when she married J. Prince Wood in |
---|
17 | 17 | | 1973; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Wood had a rewarding career as the first |
---|
19 | 19 | | counselor to be hired by the Cotulla Independent School District; |
---|
20 | 20 | | she retired after many years to embrace full-time ranching life |
---|
21 | 21 | | with Mr. Wood; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, She took pride in owning her La Salle County ranch, |
---|
23 | 23 | | and she was a highly respected member of her community; she |
---|
24 | 24 | | devoted her time to the Brush County Museum, the La Salle Historical |
---|
25 | 25 | | Association, and the Cotulla Women's Club, and she was a |
---|
26 | 26 | | deaconess in the Cotulla Presbyterian Church for many years; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Fredna Wood lived a long and fulfilling life; she |
---|
28 | 28 | | was a gifted cattlewoman and historian and was a much-loved |
---|
29 | 29 | | grandmother and great-grandmother; she will long be remembered |
---|
30 | 30 | | with deep affection by all who were privileged to share in her |
---|
31 | 31 | | life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
34 | 34 | | family of Fredna Wood; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
36 | 36 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
38 | 38 | | memory of Fredna Wood. |
