SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 743 In Memory of Fredna Wood WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Cotulla in mourning the loss of Fredna Wood, who died May 3, 2015, at the age of 95; and WHEREAS, Fredna Knaggs was born in Cotulla on December 19, 1919; as a young girl she rode her horse to Sunday School and hitched him to a tree outside her church; she continued to enjoy riding most of her life; and WHEREAS, She married Richard L. Dobie Jr. in 1942, and they moved one house down from her childhood home; they were blessed with two children, and after Mr. Dobie's passing in 1960, she earned a master's degree in counseling from Trinity University; she became a proud stepmother when she married J. Prince Wood in 1973; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Wood had a rewarding career as the first counselor to be hired by the Cotulla Independent School District; she retired after many years to embrace full-time ranching life with Mr. Wood; and WHEREAS, She took pride in owning her La Salle County ranch, and she was a highly respected member of her community; she devoted her time to the Brush County Museum, the La Salle Historical Association, and the Cotulla Women's Club, and she was a deaconess in the Cotulla Presbyterian Church for many years; and WHEREAS, Fredna Wood lived a long and fulfilling life; she was a gifted cattlewoman and historian and was a much-loved grandmother and great-grandmother; she will long be remembered with deep affection by all who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Fredna Wood; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Fredna Wood.
