| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Mary Mendoza, who was recently named the 2015 Texas |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Social Worker of the Year by The University of Texas at Austin |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | School of Social Work; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mary Mendoza grew up in a migrant family, and she |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | has served as a migrant and parent specialist in the Weslaco |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Independent School District for 20 years; she was unaware that her |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | peers in the district nominated her for the prestigious honor; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mary is an outstanding administrator who has |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | gained a reputation for excellence due to the many programs she |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | has created and helmed to meet the unique needs of migrant |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | children; in addition to migrant programs, she has also managed |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the federal Safe and Drug-Free Schools program; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, During her years with the district, graduation |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | rates for migrant students have increased by approximately 40 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | percent; the Texas Education Agency has recognized the Weslaco |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Migrant Department for Best Practices, and in 2008, Mary was |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | recognized as the Migrant Administrator of the Year at the Migrant |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | State Conference; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mary Mendoza is an inspiration to many and a source |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of pride for the Weslaco Independent School District, and she is |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | indeed deserving of recognition for her exceptional accomplishments; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Mary Mendoza on her dedication to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | her work on behalf of migrant students and congratulate her on |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | being honored with the 2015 Texas Social Worker of the Year |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | award; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
