99 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1010 AN ACT
1111 relating to political contributions by corporations and labor
1212 organizations to certain political committees.
1313 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1414 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 253, Election Code, is
1515 amended by adding Section 253.105 to read as follows:
1616 Sec. 253.105. CONTRIBUTIONS TO DIRECT EXPENDITURE ONLY
1717 COMMITTEES. A corporation or labor organization may make a
1818 political contribution from its own property to a political
1919 committee that:
2020 (1) is not established or controlled by a candidate or
2121 an officeholder;
2222 (2) makes or intends to make direct campaign
2323 expenditures;
2424 (3) does not make or intend to make political
2525 contributions to:
2626 (A) a candidate;
2727 (B) an officeholder;
2828 (C) a specific-purpose committee established or
2929 controlled by a candidate or an officeholder; or
3030 (D) a political committee that makes or intends
3131 to make political contributions to a candidate, an officeholder, or
3232 a specific-purpose committee established or controlled by a
3333 candidate or an officeholder; and
3434 (4) has filed an affidavit with the commission stating
3535 the committee's intention to operate as described by Subdivisions
3636 (2) and (3).
3737 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
