77 relating to the establishment of a veterans self-help center.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 434, Government Code, is
1010 amended by adding Section 434.0195 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 434.0195. VETERANS SELF-HELP CENTER. (a) The Texas
1212 Veterans Commission shall establish a veterans self-help center in
1313 a municipality with a population of more than 1.3 million located in
1414 a county in which three or more locations of a joint military base
1515 are located.
1616 (b) In determining a location for the self-help center, the
1717 commission shall ensure that the center is located in an area of the
1818 municipality without United States Department of Veterans Affairs
1919 offices and treatment centers.
2020 (c) The self-help center must provide access to appropriate
2121 veterans services and resources, including through staff and
2222 information technology services. The commission shall coordinate
2323 with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and any other
2424 appropriate state or federal agency, as necessary, to carry out the
2525 functions of the self-help center.
2626 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
