| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This award program recognizes teachers at member |

| 9 | 10 | | colleges who have demonstrated leadership in the development and |

| 10 | 11 | | implementation of college programs that have a positive impact on |

| 11 | 12 | | the learning experiences of students; and |

| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Edie Carter is a teacher who leads the developmental |

| 13 | 14 | | mathematics team at Amarillo College, where she has guided the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | efforts to redesign the curriculum to effectively prepare students |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | for more advanced college-level mathematics courses; her |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | mathematics instruction team has prevailed in producing positive |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | outcomes for students in an environment where funding is tight and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | expectations are high; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Under Edie Carter's leadership, the completion |

| 20 | 21 | | rates in developmental mathematics courses at Amarillo College have |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | risen, and the dropout rates have declined; during the 2015-2016 |

| 22 | 23 | | academic year, more than 75 percent of students in developmental |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | mathematics courses completed their course work; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Edie Carter is an exceptionally skilled higher |

| 25 | 26 | | education instructor who is respected and admired by her students, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | her colleagues, and the Amarillo College community, and she is |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | indeed deserving of recognition for her outstanding |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
