H.R. No. 2680 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Edie Carter has been named the recipient of the 2017 Faculty Innovation Award from the American Association of Community Colleges; and WHEREAS, This award program recognizes teachers at member colleges who have demonstrated leadership in the development and implementation of college programs that have a positive impact on the learning experiences of students; and WHEREAS, Edie Carter is a teacher who leads the developmental mathematics team at Amarillo College, where she has guided the efforts to redesign the curriculum to effectively prepare students for more advanced college-level mathematics courses; her mathematics instruction team has prevailed in producing positive outcomes for students in an environment where funding is tight and expectations are high; and WHEREAS, Under Edie Carter's leadership, the completion rates in developmental mathematics courses at Amarillo College have risen, and the dropout rates have declined; during the 2015-2016 academic year, more than 75 percent of students in developmental mathematics courses completed their course work; and WHEREAS, Edie Carter is an exceptionally skilled higher education instructor who is respected and admired by her students, her colleagues, and the Amarillo College community, and she is indeed deserving of recognition for her outstanding accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Edie Carter on receiving the 2017 Faculty Innovation Award from the American Association of Community Colleges and commend her on her exemplary career at Amarillo College; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Carter as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
