55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to a limitation on the amount of attorney's fees awarded in
88 a case assigned to a special three-judge district court.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Chapter 22A, Government Code, is amended by
1111 adding Section 22A.0055 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 22A.0055. ATTORNEY'S FEES. In a case assigned to a
1313 special three-judge district court under this chapter and in any
1414 related case consolidated with the case before the court, the court
1515 may not award attorney's fees in an amount that exceeds $250,000.
1616 SECTION 2. Section 22A.0055, Government Code, as added by
1717 this Act, applies only to a case assigned to a special three-judge
1818 district court on or after the effective date of this Act.
1919 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2020 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2121 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2222 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2323 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
