9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 22A, Government Code, is amended by |
---|
11 | 11 | | adding Section 22A.0055 to read as follows: |
---|
12 | 12 | | Sec. 22A.0055. ATTORNEY'S FEES. In a case assigned to a |
---|
13 | 13 | | special three-judge district court under this chapter and in any |
---|
14 | 14 | | related case consolidated with the case before the court, the court |
---|
15 | 15 | | may not award attorney's fees in an amount that exceeds $250,000. |
---|
16 | 16 | | SECTION 2. Section 22A.0055, Government Code, as added by |
---|
17 | 17 | | this Act, applies only to a case assigned to a special three-judge |
---|
18 | 18 | | district court on or after the effective date of this Act. |
---|
19 | 19 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
20 | 20 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
21 | 21 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
22 | 22 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
23 | 23 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
