87 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
98 SECTION 1. Section 17, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is
109 amended to read as follows:
1110 Sec. 17. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b) of this
1211 section, all [All] officers of [within] this State shall continue
1312 to perform the duties of their offices until their successors shall
1413 be duly qualified.
1514 (b) Following the expiration of a term of an appointive
1615 office that is filled by appointment of the Governor with the advice
1716 and consent of the Senate and that is not an office for which the
1817 officer receives a salary, the period for which the officer shall
1918 continue to perform the duties of office under Subsection (a) of
2019 this section ends on the last day of the first regular session of
2120 the Legislature that begins after the expiration of the term.
2221 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2322 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 2017.
2423 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2524 proposition: "The constitutional amendment limiting the service of
2625 certain officeholders appointed by the governor and confirmed by
2726 the senate after the expiration of the person's term of office."
