| 7 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 88, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 9 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 88.1085 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 12 | | Sec. 88.1085. USE OF LAND IN WILLIAM GOODRICH JONES STATE |
|---|
| 11 | 13 | | FOREST. (a) For the purpose of this section, the "Jones State |
|---|
| 12 | 14 | | Forest" means the real property owned by the state for the use and |
|---|
| 13 | 15 | | benefit of The Texas A&M University System to demonstrate |
|---|
| 14 | 16 | | reforestation work and forest management work under the Texas A&M |
|---|
| 15 | 17 | | Forest Service, consisting of approximately 1,722 acres in |
|---|
| 16 | 18 | | Montgomery County, and formally dedicated and named the William |
|---|
| 17 | 19 | | Goodrich Jones State Forest. |
|---|
| 18 | | - | (b) Except as provided by Subsection (c), the entire |
|---|
| 19 | | - | territory of the Jones State Forest must remain natural, scenic, |
|---|
| 20 | | - | undeveloped, and open in a manner that maintains the tree canopy |
|---|
| 21 | | - | cover of the forest. No statute, rule, policy, or ordinance may be |
|---|
| 22 | | - | enforced with respect to the territory of the Jones State Forest, |
|---|
| 23 | | - | other than a statute, rule, policy, or ordinance that protects and |
|---|
| 24 | | - | conserves the natural resources, air quality, or water quality of |
|---|
| 25 | | - | the Jones State Forest. |
|---|
| 26 | | - | (c) This section does not preclude the Texas Department of |
|---|
| 27 | | - | Transportation, for the current operation or future expansion of |
|---|
| 28 | | - | Farm-to-Market Road 1488, from: |
|---|
| 29 | | - | (1) using an easement that is owned by the state for |
|---|
| 30 | | - | the benefit of the department for a highway purpose; or |
|---|
| 31 | | - | (2) acquiring an additional interest in real property. |
|---|
| 20 | + | (b) The entire territory of the Jones State Forest must |
|---|
| 21 | + | remain natural, scenic, undeveloped, and open in a manner that |
|---|
| 22 | + | maintains the tree canopy cover of the forest. No statute, rule, |
