| 13 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 14 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 6, Family Code, is amended |
|---|
| 15 | 11 | | by adding Section 6.712 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 12 | | Sec. 6.712. DATE OF MARRIAGE REQUIREMENT IN FINAL DECREE. |
|---|
| 17 | 13 | | (a) In a suit for dissolution of a marriage in which the court |
|---|
| 18 | 14 | | grants a divorce, the court shall state the date of the marriage in |
|---|
| 19 | 15 | | the decree of divorce. |
|---|
| 20 | 16 | | (b) This section does not apply to a suit for dissolution of |
|---|
| 21 | 17 | | a marriage described by Section 2.401(a)(2). |
|---|
| 22 | 18 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 23 | 19 | | to a suit for dissolution of a marriage filed on or after the |
|---|
| 24 | 20 | | effective date of this Act. A suit for dissolution of a marriage |
|---|
| 25 | 21 | | filed before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law |
|---|
| 26 | 22 | | in effect on the date the suit was filed, and the former law is |
|---|
| 27 | 23 | | continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 28 | 24 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
