7 | 7 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
8 | 8 | SECTION 1. Section 11.185, Education Code, is amended by | |
9 | 9 | adding Subsections (a-1) and (b-1) to read as follows: | |
10 | 10 | (a-1) A district operating a bilingual program or special | |
11 | 11 | language program under Subchapter B, Chapter 29, shall include a | |
12 | 12 | goal that supports early childhood literacy for students in a | |
13 | 13 | bilingual program or special language program under Subchapter B, | |
14 | 14 | Chapter 29, in English or in another language as appropriate. | |
15 | 15 | (b-1) For purposes of Subsection (b)(2), a district | |
16 | 16 | operating a bilingual program or special language program under | |
17 | 17 | Subchapter B, Chaper 29, shall identify reading instruments in a | |
18 | 18 | language appropriate to assess each student's reading development | |
19 | 19 | and comprehension. | |
20 | 20 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022 | |
21 | 21 | school year. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
