59 relating to the continuing education requirement for county
610 commissioners.
711 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
812 SECTION 1. Sections 81.0025(a) and (b), Local Government
913 Code, are amended to read as follows:
1014 (a) A county commissioner must successfully complete at
1115 least 16 [classroom] hours of continuing education in the
1216 performance of the duties of county commissioners at least once in
1317 each 12-month period.
1418 (b) Continuing education instruction required by this
1519 section must be certified by an accredited public institution of
1620 higher education. The instruction may be completed online with the
1721 approval of the commissioners court, except a county commissioner
1822 must complete the instruction in person in the first 12-month
1923 period of the commissioner's first term.
2024 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2125 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2226 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2327 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2428 Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
