14 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

15 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |

16 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 662.089 to read as follows: |

17 | 13 | | Sec. 662.089. PROFOUND AUTISM AWARENESS DAY. (a) March 17 |
---|
18 | 14 | | is Profound Autism Awareness Day to raise awareness about profound |
---|
19 | 15 | | autism. People with profound autism often require continuous care |
---|
20 | 16 | | from an adult caregiver throughout their lives, may have severe |
---|
21 | 17 | | intellectual disabilities, difficulty speaking, or an inability to |
---|
22 | 18 | | speak, and are frequently excluded from research and support |
---|
23 | 19 | | programs because of their unique needs. |

24 | 20 | | (b) Profound Autism Awareness Day may be regularly observed |
---|
25 | 21 | | by appropriate ceremonies and activities, including by showing |
---|
26 | 22 | | support for those who experience profound autism and providing |
---|
27 | 23 | | information regarding resources for people with profound autism and |
---|
28 | 24 | | their caregivers. |
---|
29 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
