79 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
810 AN ACT
911 relating to the appointment and compensation of a bailiff appointed
1012 by the judges of certain district courts in Webb County.
1113 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1214 SECTION 1. Section 53.001(a), Government Code, is amended
1315 to read as follows:
1416 (a) The judges of the 30th, 70th, 71st, 78th, 89th, and
1517 161st [, and 341st] district courts, the judges of the district
1618 courts having jurisdiction in Taylor County, the judges of the
1719 county courts at law of Taylor County, and the judge of the County
1820 Court of Harrison County shall each appoint a bailiff.
1921 SECTION 2. Sections 53.001(i) and 53.009(d), Government
2022 Code, are repealed.
2123 SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act do not apply
2224 to a bailiff appointed by the judge of the 341st or 406th district
2325 court before the effective date of this Act. A bailiff appointed by
2426 the judge of the 341st or 406th district court shall continue to
2527 serve and receive compensation from Webb County in the same manner
2628 as before the effective date of this Act and shall be eligible to
2729 receive any longevity or cost of living salary increases available
2830 to a bailiff serving in Webb County before the effective date of
2931 this Act. The former law is continued in effect for the purposes of
3032 this section.
3133 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
