| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 379B, Local Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | by adding Section 379B.0046 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Sec. 379B.0046. EMPLOYMENT OF AUTHORITY PEACE OFFICERS. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (a) The board may employ and commission peace officers for the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | authority to prevent or abate the commission of offenses relating |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to port functions, facilities, and operations under state or local |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | law. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (b) The jurisdiction of a peace officer commissioned under |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | this section includes the property owned or controlled by the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | authority. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (c) In a peace officer's jurisdiction, the peace officer has |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the authority granted by Chapter 14, Code of Criminal Procedure. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. Article 2A.001, Code of Criminal Procedure, is |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Art. 2A.001. PEACE OFFICERS GENERALLY. The following are |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | peace officers: |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (1) a sheriff, a sheriff's deputy, or a reserve deputy |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | sheriff who holds a permanent peace officer license issued under |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Chapter 1701, Occupations Code; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (2) a constable, a deputy constable, or a reserve |

| 38 | 38 | | officer corps commissioned by the Public Safety Commission and the |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | director of the Department of Public Safety; |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | (5) an investigator of a district attorney's, criminal |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | district attorney's, or county attorney's office; |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | (6) a law enforcement agent of the Texas Alcoholic |
|---|

| 123 | 123 | | over another Act of the 89th Legislature, Regular Session, 2025, |

| 124 | 124 | | relating to nonsubstantive additions to and corrections in enacted |
|---|
| 125 | 125 | | codes. |
|---|
| 126 | 126 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
