AN ACT
To amend title 31, United States Code, to authorize trans-
portation for Government astronauts returning from
space between their residence and various locations, and
for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Astronaut Safe Tem-4
porary Ride Options Act’’ or the ‘‘ASTRO Act’’. 5

SEC. 2. TRANSPORTATION OF ASTRONAUTS RETURNING 1
FROM SPACE. 2
(a) I
NGENERAL.—Section 1344(a)(2) of title 31, 3
United States Code, is amended— 4
(1) in subparagraph (A), by striking ‘‘or’’ at 5
the end; 6
(2) in subparagraph (B), by inserting ‘‘or’’ 7
after the comma at the end; and 8
(3) by inserting before the matter following 9
subparagraph (B) the following: 10
‘‘(C) necessary for post-flight transportation of 11
Government astronauts, and others subject to reim-12
bursable arrangements, returning from space for the 13
performance of medical research, monitoring, diag-14
nosis, or treatment, or other official duties, prior to 15
receiving post-flight medical clearance to operate a 16
motor vehicle,’’. 17

EPORT.— 18
(1) I
N GENERAL.—Not later than one year 19
after the date of enactment of this Act and annually 20
thereafter, the Administrator of the National Aero-21
nautics and Space Administration shall submit an 22
annual report to Congress on the use of the author-23
ity providing transportation under subparagraph (C) 24
of section 1344(a)(2) of title 31, United States Code 25
(as added by subsection (a) of this Act). 26

(2) CONTENTS.—Any such report shall include 1
the name of any individual who received such trans-2
portation, the number of instances such transpor-3
tation was provided, and the total cost of such trans-4
portation for the year preceding the date such report 5
is submitted. 6
