1212 AN ACT to create 29.591 (1) (e) of the statutes; relating to: hunter education
1313 requirements for persons under the age of 18 and granting rule-making
1414 authority.

1616 This bill requires the Department of Natural Resources to offer in-person and
1717 online hunter education for persons under the age of 18. The bill also requires
1818 persons under the age of 18 to attend an in-person field training session and
1919 complete a certification exam following completion of the in-person or online course
2020 of instruction. The bill also requires DNR to promulgate rules establishing the
2121 curriculum, length, and fee for the courses.
2222 Under current law, DNR must establish a hunter education program and bow
2323 hunter education program that provide instruction in the responsibilities of hunters,
2424 how to recognize threatened and endangered species, and principles of wildlife
2525 management and conservation. DNR is required to offer an online course of
2626 instruction for persons age 18 and older.

2929 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do

3636 SECTION 1. 29.591 (1) (e) of the statutes is created to read:
3737 29.591 (1) (e) The department shall offer an in-person and online course of
3838 instruction under the hunter education program to persons under the age of 18. The
3939 department shall require persons under the age of 18 to attend an in-person field
4040 training session and complete a certification exam following completion of the
4141 in-person or online course of instruction. The department shall promulgate rules
4242 establishing the curriculum, length, and fee for the courses of instruction offered
4343 under this paragraph.
