LCO \\PRDFS1\SCOUSERS\FORZANOF\WS\2023SB-01059-R01- SB.docx 1 of 2 General Assembly Substitute Bill No. 1059 January Session, 2023 AN ACT ESTABLISHING A TASK FORCE TO STUDY THE OPERATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER PROTECTION. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (Effective from passage) (a) There is established a task force 1 to study the operations of the Department of Consumer Protection. 2 (b) The task force shall consist of the following members: 3 (1) Two appointed by the speaker of the House of Representatives; 4 (2) Two appointed by the president pro tempore of the Senate; 5 (3) One appointed by the majority leader of the House of 6 Representatives; 7 (4) One appointed by the majority leader of the Senate; 8 (5) One appointed by the minority leader of the House of 9 Representatives; 10 (6) One appointed by the minority leader of the Senate; and 11 (7) The Commissioner of C onsumer Protection, or the 12 commissioner's designee. 13 (c) Any member of the task force appointed under subdivision (1), 14 Substitute Bill No. 1059 LCO {\\PRDFS1\SCOUSERS\FORZANOF\WS\2023SB-01059- R01-SB.docx } 2 of 2 (2), (3), (4), (5) or (6) of subsection (b) of this section may be a member 15 of the General Assembly. 16 (d) All initial appointments to the task force shall be made not later 17 than thirty days after the effective date of this section. Any vacancy 18 shall be filled by the appointing authority. 19 (e) The speaker of the House of Representatives and the president 20 pro tempore of the Senate shall select the chairpersons of the task force 21 from among the members of the task force. Such chairpersons shall 22 schedule the first meeting of the task force, which shall be held not 23 later than sixty days after the effective date of this section. 24 (f) The administrative staff of the joint standing committee of the 25 General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to consumer 26 protection shall serve as administrative staff of the task force. 27 (g) Not later than January 1, 2024, the task force shall submit a 28 report on its findings and recommendations to the joint standing 29 committee of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters 30 relating to consumer protection, in accordance with the provisions of 31 section 11-4a of the general statutes. The task force shall terminate on 32 the date that it submits such report or January 1, 2024, whichever is 33 later. 34 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 from passage New section GL Joint Favorable Subst.
