term limits for district school board members; 4
providing an effective date. 5

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 7

Section 1. Section 1001.35, Florida Statutes, is amended 9
to read: 10
1001.35 Term of office. —District school board members 11
shall be elected at the general election in November for ter ms 12
of 4 years, except that a person may not appear on the ballot 13
for reelection to the office of school board member if, by the 14
end of his or her current term of office, the person will have 15
served, or but for resignation would have served, in that office 16
for 8 12 consecutive years. Service of a term of office which 17
commenced before November 8, 2022, will not be counted toward 18
the limitation imposed by this section. 19
Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2023. 20
