2828 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 15

3030 Section 1. Section 943 .17299, Florida Statutes, is created 17

3232 943.17299 Continued employment training relating to 19
3333 Alzheimer's disease and related forms of dementia. —The 20
3434 department shall establish an online, continued employment 21
3535 training component relating to Alzheimer's disease and related 22
3636 forms of dementia. The training component must be developed in 23
3737 consultation with the Department of Elder Affairs and must 24
3838 include, but need not be limited to, instruction on interacting 25

5151 with persons with Alzheimer's disease or a relate d form of 26
5252 dementia, including instruction on techniques for recognizing 27
5353 behavioral symptoms and characteristics, effective 28
5454 communication, employing the use of alternatives to physical 29
5555 restraints, and identifying signs of abuse, neglect, or 30
5656 exploitation. Completion of the training component may count 31
5757 toward the 40 hours of instruction for continued employment or 32
5858 appointment as a law enforcement officer, correctional officer, 33
5959 or correctional probation officer required under s. 943.135. 34
6060 Section 2. This act shall take effect October 1, 2024. 35
