An act relating to verification of eligibility for 2
homestead exemption; creating s. 196.092, F.S.; 3
requiring the Department of Revenue to establish an 4
eligibility verification procedure for specified 5
exemptions; requiring the department to work with 6
county property appraisers to create a certain form 7
for a specified purpose; requiring the department to 8
adopt rules; providing an effective date. 9

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 11

Section 1. Section 196.092, Florida Statutes, is created 13
to read: 14
196.092 Verification of eligibility for certain disabled 15
veterans and surviving spouses. —The Department of Revenue shall 16
establish a procedure by which a person may verify his or her 17
eligibility to receive an exemption or a discount under s. 18
196.081, s. 196.082, or s. 196.091 before the purchase of 19
property. The department must work with county property 20
appraisers to create a singl e form to be used by a property 21
appraiser in determining or verifying such eligibility. The 22
department shall adopt rules to administer this section. 23
Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2024. 24
