A bill to be entitled 1 
An act relating to the Florida African American 2 
Heritage Preservation Network; creating s. 267.0724, 3 
F.S.; requiring the Department of State to contract 4 
with the Florida African American Heritage 5 
Preservation Network for a specified purpose; 6 
specifying functions that must be provided under the 7 
contract; providing that certain expenses are eligible 8 
for funding under the contract; providing an effective 9 
date. 10

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 12 
 13 
 Section 1.  Section 267.0724, Florida Statutes, is created 14 
to read: 15 
 267.0724  Florida African American Heritage Preservation 16 
Network.—As authorized by and consistent with funding 17 
appropriated in the General Appropriations Act, the Department 18 
of State shall contract, in accordance with the duties of the 19 
division under s. 267.071, with the Florida African American 20 
Heritage Preservation Network, a nonprofit organization exempt 21 
from taxation pursuant to s. 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue 22 
Code, to preserve Florida Black and African American history and 23 
culture. Functions to be provided by the Florida African 24 
American Heritage Preservation Network under the contract shall 25

include, but are not limited to, all of the following: 26 
 (1)  Distribution of funding to support member museums and 27 
their affiliates and institutions served, and the galleries and 28 
archives of such museums, affiliates, and institutions. 29 
 (2)  Support to member museums and their affiliat es in the 30 
areas of technology, equipment acquisition, content and exhibit 31 
development fabrication and installation, and preservation of 32 
documents and artifacts. 33 
 (3)  Provision of professional and resource development 34 
services to member museums and their a ffiliates to enhance 35 
visitation to and viewership of Florida Black History and 36 
African American museums, places, and spaces. Such professional 37 
and resource development services shall include conferences, 38 
workshops, and training and tourism and marketing ex penditures. 39 
 40 
Other expenses as determined by the Florida African American 41 
Heritage Preservation Network and related to the network's 42 
mission are eligible for funding under the contract, including 43 
intern expenses, expenses related to field training sessions and 44 
virtual communication methods to maintain connectivity among the 45 
museums, traveling exhibit expenses, and expenses for living 46 
history presentations. 47 
 Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2024. 48
